In case you haven't noticed, the world is on the verge of a horrific global food crisis. At some point, this crisis will affect you and your family. #1 According to the World Bank, 44 million people around the globe have been pushed into extreme poverty since last June because of rising food prices.
#2 The world is losing topsoil at an astounding rate. In fact, according to Lester Brown, "one third of the world's cropland is losing topsoil faster than new soil is forming through natural processes".
#3 Due to U.S. ethanol subsidies, almost a third of all corn grown in the United States is now used for fuel. This is putting a lot of stress on the price of corn.
#4 Due to a lack of water, some countries in the Middle East find themselves forced to almost totally rely on other nations for basic food staples. For example, it is being projected that there will be no more wheat production in Saudi Arabia by the year 2012.
#5 Water tables all over the globe are being depleted at an alarming rate due to "overpumping". According to the World Bank, there are 130 million people in China and 175 million people in India that are being fed with grain with water that is being pumped out of aquifers faster than it can be replaced. So what happens once all of that water is gone?
#6 In the United States, the systematic depletion of the Ogallala Aquifer could eventually turn "America's Breadbasket" back into the "Dust Bowl".
#7 Diseases such as UG99 wheat rust are wiping out increasingly large segments of the world food supply.
#8 The tsunami and subsequent nuclear crisis in Japan have rendered vast agricultural areas in that nation unusable. In fact, there are many that believe that eventually a significant portion of northern Japan will be considered to be uninhabitable. Not only that, many are now convinced that the Japanese economy, the third largest economy in the world, is likely to totally collapse as a result of all this.
#9 The price of oil may be the biggest factor on this list. The way that we produce our food is very heavily dependent on oil. The way that we transport our food is very heavily dependent on oil. When you have skyrocketing oil prices, our entire food production system becomes much more expensive. If the price of oil continues to stay high, we are going to see much higher food prices and some forms of food production will no longer make economic sense at all.
#10 At some point the world could experience a very serious fertilizer shortage. According to scientists with the Global Phosphorus Research Initiative, the world is not going to have enough phosphorous to meet agricultural demand in just 30 to 40 years.
#11 Food inflation is already devastating many economies around the globe. For example, India is dealing with an annual food inflation rate of 18 percent.
#12 According to the United Nations, the global price of food reached a new all-time high in February.
#13 According to the World Bank, the global price of food has risen 36% over the past 12 months.

While saving foods, water and such, be sure you know the propper methods for storage. Otherwise you will find yourself with stale and rotten food and algea filled water. Know how to find outside water sources and purify it for drinking. As you do your shopping, purchase and learn about gardening and HEIRLOOM garden seeds. You will need some form of multi vitamin along with your stored foods to stave off malnutrition and such (don’t forget medications, masks and gloves). You can grow your own fresh foods indoors, but to keep this up, you must have HEIRLOOM varieties so you can save seeds for future plantings. Learn about humanure, waste disposal, first aid, personal protection/self defense, how to homestead, etc. I am a Christian 100%…. this article is correct about that people are in need, BUT using Japan as an example shows uss a little bit of how exacurate it is. I have most of my friends- and spend much of my time in- japan, and the crisis in Japan after the earthquake was not even close to as bad as people gotten the expression of –> newspapers need readers- that’s how it is. the strongest headline gets most readers. inflation and food shortages at emergency shelters is not enough proof for your point. to me it seems you regurgitated a lot of opinions and speculation. did you talk to farmers? did you go and find out if there are people changing their lives and starting to farm in U.S. without using fossil fuels to do so? before you strike fear into the hearts of your readers with a bunch of speculation why not try going out and doing some research on the facts. you can come visit my small start-up farm out here in NC and i will give you some of my eggs so you will calm the F down.

Key Lindbergh for many years wrote to our legislators promoting Solar and Renewable Energy and many others.
These Pioneers helped put Wind, Solar And Renewable Energy in the Spotlight for all the World to see.
The Great Scientist Albert Einstein Stared it with a Dream that the day would come that all the World would use Solar Energy. His many years of work with the law of the Photoelectric Effect, and showing this to the World won him the Nobel Prize in Physics. We still do not teach this to our young.

All Taxes need to be lowered cut in half or there will be a lot more Poor and needy and not in just other countries. This 2012 year the World will see hunger like never before. I have also taken notice of these subtle signs that could indicate a potential food crisis. After seeing how stores are literally cleared out in hours after Hurricane Katrina, massive scale blizzards that leave gas stations without gas for over a week, and after seeing radiation scares from the Earthquake in Japan…. I noticed that iodine supplements were gone for nearly a month because of the potential radiation scare.

Additionally, the government sponsored push for ethanol has caused major shortages in corn in the USA, and spikes in just about everything food related. What the average person doesn’t realize is that many of our everyday foods have a component of corn or corn syrup in them, thus when there is a shortage of corn, there is a spike in the price, and eventually a spike in other foods derived from corn.
And in this coming food crisis who is going to protect you when you have a nice garden and your neighbors are starving? If they can’t steal it – they will kill you and take it. You better also go buy an armed compound to grow all that food in!!!!
